I have recently been going through my great grandfathers coin collection to help my mother determine the value. I used to collect myself as a kid but only recently have I spent anytime learning about grading. The coin is still currently in the old 2x2 that it was in when my great grandfather purchased the coin and is the cause of the yellow tint. Any advise would be appreciated.

Looks like a nice, original bust dime in VF condition, but the value probably isn't high enough to justify the cost of grading.

I appreciate the input. The 2x2 it is in has EF written on it, but I know that means nothing. I assume its from the shop he bought it from back in the day. I'll admit I feel a little lost when it comes to the smaller coins.

A nice looking coin. I would put the grade around VF20, and a value of about $150. I would not have the coin graded.

Do ya'll think I should move this coin to a new 2x2, or should I leave it in the old one it is currently in. I have a handful of different coins that are in old holders that have yellowed, and the rest where is cardboard books from the 50's.

I'd put it in a new holder. It looks like a nice VF piece. Don't have it graded professionally.

Agree, nice coin but not worth grading.

If you have a few other coins of similar value, the occasional ANACS special might do you well. Those tend to average around $10/coin and IMO works for a positive ROI. I agree that NGC or PCGS might be pushing cost prohibitive.

I took advantage of the special last Aug and submitted 20 coins. With some extras like conservation for a few and variety attribution on a few, I was all in at $300. I am certain when the time comes my family sells them, they would get more than $300 vs the value of those as raw.
