Good afternoon everyone!

I've had this unusual two-toned coin for a while and have always wondered if damage like this could be mint-related?

No way that could happen during the striking of the coin.
Just damage.

Agree, not an error--good old post strike damage, May have spend some time on a floor in a machine shop. Some staining thrown in due to exposure to environmental agents.

It may have been a proof coin. So I guess we will call it an assaulted (instead of impaired) proof cent.
