This coin was listed as a " Struck Through Grease" error, but looking at the general lack of rims I would call it a struck through die cap error. The date is either 1950 or 1956. In hand and spinning in under the light with a loupe, it honestly looks like 1950. In the photos it looks more like 1956. I know of no way to differentiate these dates based on the reverse. 195X Lincoln Wheat cent mint error - struck through die cap Edited by tropicalbats 04/02/2021 11:57 pm

Here is the same die (reverse markers match) a little earlier in the progression. No chance of working out the date here but still looks like 1950 under the loupe. 195X Lincoln Wheat cent mint error - struck through die cap coin 2

I'm going with 1956 TB. Don't look directly at the date, look to the right on your red background and let your peripheral vision take over. Maybe that will help you see the date looks more like a 56', it did me at least....not saying I'm right.....
EDIT: the posts crossed.... I am talking about your first original pic at the top of your post.

Could it be a 59.... ... Love the tone on the reverse of both...Another wonderful cent for your collection...

I'd say 1956 and agree with Scubas. Overall dimensions fit a 6 better. Nice 3!

Third, and final, coin from the same die. I think this one was the last struck as it is pretty close to the first one but seems just a little more defined. The story here is that I bought all three of these, in separate auctions, from the same seller. I had no idea they were all from the same die until just now, as I have been looking at them one at a time. First time I've been able to pick up a multi-coin progression for a die cap strike and pretty happy to discover that's what I ended up with. 195X Lincoln Wheat cent mint error - struck through die cap coin 3

Wow! That progression is incredible! I'd be inclined to say 50 as well.

Thanks folks! Yeah, I was certainly surprised tonight to find the progression, but also surprised that I got each of these for twenty bucks and free shipping. That's fairly low for wheats struck through die cap, but maybe it was because the date was unknown and there isn't any funky brockage or whatnot going on.

I think last one is 1950 and seem to give the clue for the first also. Like I say nice ones now.

Very cool! Never seen a die progression with struck through die caps before. Certainly impressive!
