I was looking on ebay the other day and my true birthday note popped up. I decided it was worth buying for $4. I know it is not worth much to 99.5% of collectors but it sure made my day.

I think $4 is well worth it in this case. I would almost certainly buy a birthday note for myself or kids if I found one for 4 bucks.

I would have absolutely bought that one! I never thought about searching for birth dates in serial numbers. Until now (thanks a lot - as if I don't have enough things I'm looking for! ).

Cashhound, big congratulations on finding your birthday note! I would absolutely jump at the chance to buy a $4 dollar birthday note that matched friends or family. Correct format birthday notes are nearly impossible to find for individuals. Consider the amount of time, effort, and luck it takes to find one. If you ask me, $4 was a bargain.

After reading the comments on how difficult it is to find a true birthday note (DDMMYYYY) I've decided to find it's rareness. I used the chart below to figure it out. I looked up the rareness of a LADDER note and figured it would be the same (all 8 S/N that cannot vary). Per my reasoning it seems to be extremely rare. If you disagree, tell me why.

I disagree. Finding a single exact birthday note match in the prescribed format of MMDDYYYY is 1 in 99,999,999. The ladder format odds you are looking at is for 6 types of ladders 01234567, 12345678, 23456789, 98765432, 87654321, and 76543210. With ladders there are 6 numbers that match the criteria and with an exact birthday note there is only 1. So the odds for a ladder are 1 in 16,666,667 and the birthday note is 1 in 99,999,999 - Not really because the numbering system for general $1's stops at 96,000,000 and some other factors. Only sheets created for collectors go above this number for recent series. So you wouldn't typically find those notes in general circulation unless someone cut and spent them.

I would agree except that birthday can only up to 12303021 for this year so your odds are 1 in 12302021, the other notes wouldn't count. The range of birthdays only run 0101yyyy to 1231yyyy or other formats yyyymmdd so they maybe more common than 1 thinks.

Assume there are 365 days and we have people up to 99 years old, we have 36,135 possible candidates for a birth year note. For example this is a birthday note just not mine. Congrats on finding yours.
