1983 Lincoln Memorial Cent - Plating Issue? Die Split?

Parnelli917 Valued Member United States 392 Posts	Posted 07/13/2021 07:38 am I'm kinda stumped on this one. Looks like it might be a plating issue. At times the surface at the crack seems raised and other times indented. I looked at Cuds-on-coins, but the examples of die splits seem to be different. If you look closely, the crack seems to cross the rim on both sides. Also, mine is not as wide as they show for a die split. Looking for expert analysis. Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

Parnelli917 Valued Member United States 392 Posts	Posted 07/13/2021 10:08 am Thanks all. I thought it was odd that it seemed to have cracks in the rim at both ends. I'm trying to understand the plating process. Would that potentially cause cracks in the rim? It could be that I'm seeing things and the rim isn't really cracked. Unfortunately, I put most of my coins in a safe deposit box so I don't have it in hand. But I tend to agree with you that it looks much more like plating than a die crack.
