@keith I appreciate the help, thanks!! Haven't been doing this coin collecting stuff long... But I do have one more coin that is quite odd, I dont think its a natural mint error but I can't figure it out. Maybe you can help? Its a 1976-D Lincoln penny... Looks like its a steel penny but they didnt have any in that year though right?.

Ok I will after this. But I thought the same thing, nothing came off when I carefully tried to wash it.. So I did some research and some people were saying its the product of a science experiment. Which I could believe, but I'mástill skeptical.

Don't worry I didnt use any cleaner on it. Nor did I scrub it with anything.. just water and light drying, Was worried about damaging it.

Could be Plated is a science experiment.
They used to do that in school back in the day. looks more like paint to me. A soak in 100% pure Acetone would tell

That won't cause any grading issues? I know its probably not worth anything but I still will like it no matter the value, so I just gotta make sure that its ok for the coin... Sorry for all the annoying questions, I really do appreciate it though!!

Ah I see you've called my name.

Like Keith said, it's most likely either plated or painted.

Let's see what it looks like after a good acetone soak. Having an accurate weight might tell us something also.

You are correct, not worth the cost of submitting this coin for grading. Check eBay's SOLD listings for a rough idea as to value.

Possibly dipped in Mercury, which may make it toxic if you handle it.

Painted or plated, it's worth one cent.
