Purchased this recently from an online seller who I haven't bought from before. I don't know much about these and I would like to hear whether or not I got an ok deal or should I return it and spend more for a slabbed one?

I think between the rim damage and cleaning it would be details but is it authentic? If so is $140 reasonable? Thanks in advance

Weight will help. Thinking it would be difficult to fake a color like this.

I think VG10 close to a fine but not quite there. $140 is probably a fair price, is it genuine though that is the real question and it's hard to say, it looks good from the photos, but these fake Trade dollars can be done so well, it's one of the first coins the Chinese counterfeiters began doing in a mass quantity. So in hand examination by an expert is probably warranted.

Rough VG. No obvious signs of a fake. Not exactly collectible in this grade.

There are no major red flags on authenticity. Not a bad looking coin, although I usually avoid coins that have been cleaned.

To me, if such a coin's numismatic value is a lot more than it's bullion value, it could be in consideration for adding to my collection - at an advantageous price.

I do have a Trade dollar, but not in much better than the coin pictured. It still took me years to get a representative example at a bargain price for condition anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I've seen a lot of Chinese knock offs online and just wanted to hear some other opinions. I think I'm going to keep it until one comes a long in better condition.

The denticles, stars and details look OK. The coin has a type 1 obverse and a type 2 reverse and a mini S that were all used on the 1876 S. The coin appears genuine. F Details Cleaned and Scratched.
