I'm thinking this is a struck-through penny (A in America and last two digits of date)? Date not fully readable but from weight (4.62 grams) and appearance this is a copper-nickel Indian Head penny. Date is most likely 1863. Opinions please.

Most likely a grease strike through. Not all that uncommon, but still a desirable and quite affordable error. 1863 is likely for the date, I suppose you could check each die pair in Rick Snow's FE & IHC encyclopedia to be sure if you could match one up.

The coin has moderate wear but I don't think that's the culprit for the partial missing numbers . I'll go with a Greaser .
