It has value, but probably less than a dollar.

It's a common-date nickel, and as you stated in your topic title, it is worn and damaged. The replies were straightforward, realistic, and honest. Nothing hardcore about them.

Many of us collect for the enjoyment, not the profit. Buffalo nickels are cool, but most are not particularly valuable.

As worn as the coin is, it's value is above face (five cents), perhaps 75 cents to a buck.

Actually appears to be a minor DDO. DDO-001: http://www.varietyvista.com/03%20Bu...5PDDO001.htm

Might be worth a couple dollars to a specialist collector, but those scratches aren't appealing.
Rest in Peace

Wow that's amazing. Most of the coins claimed to be DDO are not and he posted a coin not as a DDO and it turned out to be one.

What is the tell tail sign that it is a DDO and not circulation flattening?

to the Community. Might not be worth much, but show it to some young kids who've never seen a Buffalo nickel and look at their faces.

The reason for the low value is the Philly mint made 58,264,000 Buffalos in 1935. So even 84 years later, there are still more floating around than there is a collecting base to drive enough demand to outpace supply and inflate prices much. Most of the dates of the 1930s are the same way, produced by the 10s of millions (1936 was over 100 million); such that bulk lots and bargain bins for Buffalos are mostly full of the late 1930s coins.

Buffalo nickels are beautiful coins though! I am slowly working on a set and I appreciate them.
