About 1-1/2 weeks ago I posted in the "Want to Buy" section of the forum my need for Indian Head cents for a new set I was starting. I thought the following information though will also be of interest in this forum too, as it demonstrates some creativity that all of us can use as we hunt coins for our collections.

While I didn't attend the ANA show in Rosemont, surprisingly I was able to get quite a few newps for my set:
1. My online research found that Liz Coggan had three great Indians that had CAC's and Photo Seals graded by PCGS in the grades I wanted with real nice eye appeal! Bought!
2. A total of 10 coins were found between Seth Chandler of Witter Coins and Charmy Harker "The Penny Lady" that had CAC's and looked real nice, but had NO Photo Seals. But Rick Snow had a table at the show, so I said to Seth and Charmy that I'll buy their coins at our negotiated prices (plus $15 each for the Photo Seal cost of those that qualify), but ONLY if they bring those coins over to Rick's table, and he says they'll merit his Photo Seal. Six of the 10 coins did get the Photo Seal, so those coins were bought, and then left with Rick to take home with him to Tucson to apply the seals and make the plasticized Photo Seal cards. He'll drop ship them directly to me.
3. I spoke to Rick in advance of the show. At the show he bought an Indian that had a CAC that was also nice enough for his Photo Seal. He called me up right away, and I bought that one too.

So to my surprise, I was able to get 10 coins at that show for this challenging set.

Here's a hotlink to my set.

Thanks.

Wow that sounds like pretty good progress for just one day. Well done!

Added: maybe just me, but I can't get that link to work.

Yep link is fixed now. They are all lookers, but that 1901 is really something!

Thanks. That coin is the Indian cent for my Type Set. I bought it from Rick Snow four years ago, as an MS66RD, with a CAC and Photo Seal. I liked it so much, I sent it back to PCGS via Reconsideration, and it came back as an MS66+RD. Since the cert number remains unchanged with Reconsideration, I then sent it back to both CAC and Rick, as the coin automatically qualifies for restickering by both of them, since they each ignore the "+" in grades. CAC charged $3 for that (now it's $5), and Rick does not charge for restickering.

Thank you Spence, Coinfrog, EDM, and Oldfordman for your kind comments.

Good snags! I did ask Julian to look around at Chicago for you, he didn't find anything. If that's because there wasn't anything, or he didn't actually look I won't know. But I tried

Grape, thanks, greatly appreciated! Please have him keep his eyes open. Perhaps at Long Beach next month? For many dates before 1900 even MS64RB is good too, even at three figures despite the higher cost of the ones in my set so far.

He doesn't plan to attend Long Beach. To quote him, "You couldn't pay me to go to California right now". I plan to be at the Virginia Numismatic Association Show next month though.
