Hello

I would like your opinion on this Morgan. I am working on grading this one. I bought it and when I got it I was uncertain that the grade I bought was accurate. I am new to Morgans and hope to pick up some grading ability with them. Appreciate your input.

Learning as I go!

Here it is:

Thanks!

This is the weakest area of the coin - marks on chin.

Tough one to grade from pics shown. Nice-looking fields, but the last pic suggests a lot of issues on the chin and neck. I'm leaning toward MS-63.

MS62
It has no major distraction points. A fair amount of chatter.

MS-62+. The reverse is at or close to 65 but the obverse chatter holds it back quite a bit. Might sneak into a 63 holder but no higher.

On Morgan's the cheek area caries the most weight on grading. The reverse is strong with only a few marks. The coin has luster that is typical of a MS example. MS62

really hard to get a feel but the cheek looks 62 in the last pic.

Photos make it difficult to properly grade this coin. My guess is MS63.

the 02(O) typically have average strikes. I think this one is a tad better than that. luster appears to be good except your last photo is showing it could be broken on the cheek. I think surface preservation is pretty good except for a few marks on the reverse. the biggest deduction will be for the chin and neck. solid MS63 in my book

I'm at high end 62 or low/average 63 on this one.

Wow - great input. Thank you very much. I am struggling trying figure out what exactly makes one coin mint state from non au. I am new to this (duh) but I just assumed mint state would not have any blemishes or marks so I've been surprised by all the marks and blemishes on even ms 64-65 morgans that are listed on ebay.

IMHO, the reverse pulls the net grade up to MS-63. Pretty decent strike.

I am also thinking MS-63 sounds right.
