Just a general question... If you could go back and start over what is the one thing I would do, knowing what I do now?

I should have been nicer to my brother and sister growing up with them!

For coin collecting, I should have bought a roll of 1909S VDB, because I paid the same for one in later years. Buy the keys first and then buy lots of reference books.

I wish I bought those gold coins in 2002.

I'd wish I hadn't dropped my grandmothers 55 DDO down the sewer
on the way to the candy store in 1963.

Nice to have you here.
As for me it's easy. Never smoke and use the money to buy coins and invest in Beanie Babies.
OOoppps I mean Enron Stocks of course.
Serious about the not smoking part though. Being a stage four cancer survivor everyone should stop smoking.

I don't think I would change anything.

But that Willie Nelson song is in the back of my head for some reason.
You were always on my mind

I would not change a thing... because of that whole "butterfly effect" and all.

If I could go back, I'd pick up a lot more junk silver when it was $4/oz.

Going back has a little problem for most. If you go back far enough, the average person did not have the money to buy or hoard coins. So you go back and there they are and you can't afford them.

Well the main reason I ask, is because I don't want to get 5-10 years down the line and say to my self if I only knew that when I started. I am mainly looking for tips as to how to get started and what to watch out for. I am looking for expert advice.

Everyone makes mistakes caseball, just try not to repeat the same ones over and make your small mistakes first and learn from them. Educational posts here can help you avoid a lot of common ones.
Trust your instincts and guts, use your head, and ask for help.
Oh and welcome to the forum!

I would have read more and researched more before I bought, asking questions, shopping around etc. The more education you have about what you want to collect, the more likely you will be satisfied in the future and not have to ask yourself 'if only...'.

I'd have bought the 1916 Standing Liberty quarter at the Fresno Coin Gallery for $750 in 1999 :(
Rest in Peace

I would have kept all those silver dollars I got at the bank for face value in 1964!

I wouldn't have sold off my Type collection in the late seventies to buy a stupid boat!
