I keep mine in a safe deposit box in a local bank. I know the contents of a safe deposit box are not insured by the bank or the federal government, so in the respect not 100% safe, but what is? One person I talked to about this thought a safe at home was a better option. I disagree. I think home burglaries/robberies are more prevalent than bank safe deposit breeches. I'm also unsure about the availability of insurance on safe deposit contents from a third party. I believe it's hard, if not impossible, to get. If it is possible, what do you have to do to prove possession/loss?

By the way, I'm not going to dig a hole in my backyard, so please don't go there.

I agree, safe deposit is safer. If you don't hold it do you own it?

Not many are going to answer this question, for security reasons.

My bullion is gold and platinum only, my safe is way too small for silver bullion.
My collection is perhaps valued at some tens of $thousands, only the most valuable dozen or so coins are stored in it.

By far the greatest part of my collection is a working reference collection, with an attached computer and specialist numismatic library.

My dad built the safe for me over 50 years ago.
Being small, it is very difficult to find, and impossible to carry - it weighs well over 100 lbs, and bolted to the floor.
Well hidden, under a nondescript corrugated carboard box, under a pile of junk.
You need a key, to get to a key, to get to the key, to open it.

Australia has well less than 1% of the number of guns that America does, and thus home invasion is much less of a consideration, but has to be recognized, nevertheless. Store your safe key in your gun safe, and hide the gun safe key.

I once approached an insurance company a long time age, and they wanted my collection professionally and independently valued every three years due to the fact that the value of the collection is akin to moving goal posts. They would pay the valuerer 3% of the collection for his services, then charge for the premium top of that.
Hence the reason for the safe.

I had the core of my collection in a bank safety deposit box for about two years, when I was out of the Country.

I have a SD box at the local Credit Union. I made sure to get a box that's not too high off the ground because it's usually one of the
ladys working at the CU that pulls the SD box for me. I also warn them that it's going to be somewhat heavy.

I have a friend who uses one of those offsite storage facilities to store his excess junk in bins and boxes. Summer clothes in winter extra blankets etc. typically they are about $50 a month and have cameras or security

Buried in the middle of all those bins of junk is a bin of junk silver. Who would know and then think to look though bin after bin of junk to find it
