The super powers seem to have a problem sharing. Russia is rich with minerals but is hell-bent doing their thing. I don't see the sanctions imposed on them being lifted for a long time. China has been courting foreign countries for control over their minerals while at home they have been mining and some say exhausting their their reserves. Copper mining is moving farther underground than ever before. The cost of mining increases dramatically the lower you have to go.

The question is are we at a point where copper, bronze, nickel, and copper nickel coins are going to have a higher value than face. Do you see countries pulling coinage from circulation and replacing them with aluminum or plastic coins? Is our currency going strictly digital?

Where do you see all of this going?

With all the coin-operated vending machines in the US I don't see the composition of US coins changing for a long time -- if ever.

To some extent this has already been going on for decades. Almost every country has replaced copper and nickel with cheaper alloys/ composites, and has eliminated the smaller denomination coins.

Vending machines would only be a factor if they accepted 1 and 5 cent coins, the ones where this problem would exist. Are there any vending machines in the US that accept coins smaller than 1/4 dollar?

The melt value of a Jefferson nickel has already been higher than face value for several years, and given the recent rise in copper and nickel prices, it seems inevitable that they will need to change the composition of the nickel soon. There's a little more leeway in clad coinage given the higher denominations, but it wouldn't be surprising if dimes and quarters changed as well at some point.

The ticket machines at the SunRail train stations in Orlando take nickels and dimes as well as quarters and dollar coins (not halves or cents).

If we simply hyperinflate the currency by 10,000% then a dollar bill will be the new cent.

Technically even the zinc penny is worth a tiny fraction more than a penny but I expect them to go to a zinc nickel, dime, quarter soon. Might as well it should feel as cheap as it's worth

They should discontinue everything below the quarter dollar.
