I am back and will be happy to send the coin to Mike and generally follow the comments more closely after I get a chance to unwind and get some sleep. Long two days away feels like a week and I'm a bit of a zombie right now.

It's certainly worth a write-up in Coin World.

It has NOT been in Coin World. I intend to write it up for Coin World in a future Collectors' Clearinghouse column.

Had a chance to read through the comments, and what a great thread with some real solid discussion. Much appreciated! I think at this point the coin will head off in the mail for Mike to get some hands-on with it and not just looking at pictures. I will get it out quickly, since I will again be gone for a couple days at the beginning of next week. Crazy early in the year for bat work, and making my usual calm March/April into a crazy time.

And to answer the questions: The coin weighs 4.97g and I found it listed on ebay with some pretty good images labeled as "mis-strike".

That's great, a lot of folks will be waiting to hear what he thinks once he has the coin in-hand! I'll also be looking forward to seeing the future Coin World write-up.

It has been packaged and will be in the mail in the morning. Should I wake up before they close at noon that is.

It is almost same but not same. The strike is much more week.
the trails seem be same but are different. For me mean that not only one planchet was light cut but a few. The trails on this have same dimension but the inner trail marks are different. If was a fake error will have common points, and it is not the case here. Hope Mike agree.

I've completed my analysis and discovered that this is, after all, a case of post-strike damage. The coin is grossly out-of-round, with the diameter measuring 21.21 millimeters along the valleys and 21.50mm at a right angle to the valleys. The coin spread apart as it was pinched between whatever created the two valleys. The coin also rocks slightly when placed on its obverse. The point of instability coincides with the location of the obverse valley. This shows the coin is slightly bent. My full analysis will appear in next week's Coin World.

Good to bring this to closure Mike - it was a long and fun speculative thread and now we have the answer. Thank you for your contributions.
