I purchased 2 shipwreck coins from my LCS. They specialize in world coins, ancients and cool oddities such as shipwreck. The coin holder had very limited information on it but enough that I could confidently put together the information card that accompanies the coin.
Not sure if people specialize in this stuff but I like making sure the information on my coins are 100% correct in the event that a family member has to sell them decades in the future. Can anyone confirm that the text on my holders is correct for that period?
I'm also curious about a rough value (for me to log it in my spreadsheet).
I bought these 2 in a lot of around 30 ancients for around $12/piece so the history and the story is worth $12 each at least!
From what I can see, the the info on the inserts is essentially correct. Both are very common types and given their condition, any value is entirely historical. $12 each is in the 'full retail' range imo.
@can those Ok like fun purchases. With specific regard to the Song Dynasty Cash, it looks to me from your photo that there are multiple coins accreted together. That extra thickness would explain the tenting of the clear plastic holder plus the higher weight. If I'm right, can you please show us a pic of the edge(s)? In my mind that would elevate this purchase. Thx.

Ok yes, now that is pretty cool. Numismatically, the coins may be in rough shape, but as a group bonded together over centuries under the sea, this seems like well worth twelve bucks. Nicely done!
