A while back I was frustrated because ebay would not allow me to have a high enough selling limit to list all the coins in my collection. That and the frustration of not having control over the platform led me to create an e-commerce website (linked in my signature) where I could list my coin collection. I used free wordpress, free woocommerce (WC), the free Astra theme and free plugins to get the site up cost-effectively. I did upgrade the elementor web design plugin to the Pro version to have a little more flexibility in the website's design. Frankly I don't know what I am doing but I am trying to learn.

My goals were as follows:

1. Be able to list my coin collection, illustrate it with photos and videos and present it with descriptions in the way I wanted to present the collection.

2. To be able to access and see my collection anywhere on the go through my phone and tablet.

3. To be able to control the presentation and the rules on my platform.

So, since I didn't know how to create a website, I learned how by watching youtube videos on the subject.

I was able` to slap together the website linked in the signature at the bottom of my posts.

Ignore the coin prices because they have little bearing on the market price of the coins. The pricing reflects what it would take for me to part with that coin away from my collection. I consider my coins as "my other children."

I have various bugs that I still need to work out, but I'll list some of the ones that I know of here:

1. There is a large space below the header in the mobile rendering of the website and a smaller one under the header of the tablet rendering of my website. Tried using CSS to limit the header to less than 767 pixels but I haven't been able to resolve the issue yet.

2. I am having trouble containing the picture gallery for individual products in woocommerce as my editing capabilities in the WC pages are dynamic and hard to edit/redesign.

3. The elementor widget that displays the product listing in the home page is set to display the woocommerce products in descending order by price, but it is listing them in the order in which I added the products. Really confounding me.

4. Just learning SEO and submitted my sitemap to Bing and Google, Enabled Google analytics, search console and tag manager. I'm sure I am missing a whole bunch of stuff that I need to do.

I would really appreciate thoughts on how to improve the site and corrections of any blunders I made as I put the site together.

Many thanks to all in advance for your kind help.

@ns, I definitely can't answer your questions, but I was curious about the website. I was gonna ask you for that info, but then noticed it in your signature. To a non-computer person, I think it looks pretty cool. Well done.

Thanks Spence. All technical and non-technical suggestions are welcome. Is there anything that bothers you about the presentation?

Congrats, on both your amazing coins and your impressive website. I can't help you with the technical aspects—that's way over my head. I like your categories, but I didn't notice the separate pages for each section immediately. It might be nice to organize the home page with a representative coin for each category that takes you to each section's page, rather than having a random assortment of coins on the home page. Also, what about adding the TruView photos when they are available?

Your website looks great as well does your coins. But the address listed in about doesn't exist and you want to sell a $750000 coin via wire. Can we say that sets off a lot of bells and whistles.

Your collection should be sold via an auction not a website with no physical address or real contact information.

If the website is just to show your coins, I would use a picture gallery and post the pictures there.

Well actually, I do have something. As you know, slabbing isn't as much of a thing with ancients as it is for US coins. However, at least some of your coins are slabbed, since I see the holder tabs against the rim of the coin in the pics. I would include that info in the descriptions—not the serial number, but the TPG name and condition assessment.

Added: well now that I look more closely you do this for some but not all the ancients. TPG info is missing from the Seleukid Tet.

Thank you for your kind replies.

@Zurie - You are right about the front page presentation. I am trying to order by placing the highest priced items first as that is what I expect will garner the most interest. Still working on that. I tried to make navigation to the various product pages as easy and intuitive as possible but want to get it as easy for anyone to navigate. I actually started the site by doing exactly what you said, placing a representative coin to go to the category listings page, but it looked clunky and I thought it better to get to the "meat" right away, which is to show the most interesting coins which are the ones with the highest value at the top of the front page. I guess that's why people are willing to pay more for them. If available, I will try to post the trueviews and the NGC equivalent. Good call.

@hfjacinto - The about page does not list any addresses but the contact page does. The contact info is real so not really sure how you determined they were fake. No one, I think, is going to order a $750k coin like they buy a phone case from Amazon. It will likely begin with initial contact via email, followed by a conversation, maybe a viewing of the product, and then a decision after a negotiation. The site is a way to show the product and begin a conversation about a transaction. For lower value items it may look different. The front page of the website is essentially a picture gallery of the coin collection as you have suggested. The e-commerce back-end is the tech-centric way of transacting that some people will feel comfortable with and others won't. Still working on fine-tuning it. Great suggestions because trust and security are of great importance in this project and something that will take effort to resolve.

@Spence - I am working on imaging all the slabs and that will be done as I move further along.

Great feedback so far.

@numismatic student 9401 Church Street Manassas, VA 22101 doesn't exist as an address in google maps. Hence why I said it makes it look strange.

I had transposed a number in the address. It should be correct now. Thanks for pointing it out.

Some updates:

1. There is a large space below the header in the mobile rendering of the website and a smaller one under the header of the tablet rendering of my website. Tried using CSS to limit the header to less than 767 pixels but I haven't been able to resolve the issue yet.

Resolved 90%. Was able to fix for the desktop and tablet rendering. A 75px (much smaller pad) remains on the mobile rendering and am in the process of learning the CSS coding required to remove this.

2. I am having trouble containing the picture gallery for individual products in woocommerce as my editing capabilities in the WC pages are dynamic and hard to edit/redesign.

Working to try to resolve this.

3. The elementor widget that displays the product listing in the home page is set to display the woocommerce products in descending order by price, but it is listing them in the order in which I added the products. Really confounding me.

This is a known issue for my web editing software and am in the process of resolution/fix from developer.

4. Just learning SEO and submitted my sitemap to Bing and Google, Enabled Google analytics, search console and tag manager. I'm sure I am missing a whole bunch of stuff that I need to do.

Working to try to resolve this. Meeting little success,

Wow, that is a stellar group of coins. I currently have the half disme in my cart by the way. The video of the coin is really amazing.

There is a focus issue with most of the coins and it's hard to tell exactly what is happening. When I click on a coin like the half disme, it takes me to that listing. The photo looks out of focus, but when I hover over the photo, it moves and becomes properly focused. Then when you move the cursor away it snaps back. I don't know if this is an effect you are intending, but it is very distracting.

I tried in both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome, with the same results.

Thank you for your help @Jadey. I usually view the web using the firefox browser but viewed the site using both the Edge and Chrome desktop browsers and the Chrome mobile browser. I wasn't able to see the issue that you pointed out. I went into the half disme and other product pages. I see the images and the enlargement when I hover the mouse at the same resolution. Maybe a little less sharp resolution whenever the image is enlarged.

One other issue is that, although I wish I could alter the product pages, they are controlled by the WooCommerce plug in which renders a very standardized presentation and leaves me very little leeway to modify the layout. I attempted to create pages that render separately using elements of the product page, but could not get those pages to render correctly.
