Not too many serious scratches or dings but has some heavy spotting. But then the fluorescent toning is very cool.

Slightly circulated, spots detract, no premium here that I can see.

Spot or not, it's a nice looking coin.

AU-58, light circulation. I doubt this kind of toning would add value.

Toning is in the eye of the beholder, but I don't think this obverse toning/spotting would appeal to most collectors, regardless of grade.

All toning over time will move towards black. the process can be slowed by sealing in an airtight holder. copper is such a reactive metal that it happens much quicker. when it gets to the black there are collectors that appreciate it. most however do not and one reason I almost always passed on toned coppers.

lighting is not the best to assess wear on this coin so I have it at either AU58 or MS62

AU-58, light circulation. No added value from the toning.

Thanks everyone for the input. This cent came from a roll I bought 10 years ago. I don't remember but I doubt it was a bank roll. So it's possible that someone re-rolled 50 cents that we're partial BU and some AU and just searched for 65 +'s or something like that. Most of the rest are NOT toned and appear to me to be 61-63's. But I do think I need to get some different lighting or a diffuser of some type. My micro camera seems to do a decent job when lighting doesn't become part of the equation.

Think of toning like a nice paint job on a car, if it is nice and gives it a wow factor, then it may add value, if it is just ok, say solid brown then it doesn't add much...if it is ugly/terminal dark colors then it probably lowers the value/grade like rust on a car.

Most toner collectors are looking for coins that can be described as, wow, incredible, etc.
