My favorite thing about collecting Lincoln cents is pulling them from my change jar.(peanut butter jar in the kitchen) I have to admit that finding one before 1940 has been nearly impossible the last few years. Does anyone else have my bad luck?

The best way to get Lincolns is to go to the bank and get a box.

I'll have to try the box thing this week. I've had trouble finding earlier dates as well.

I haven't gone through to many Lincoln Cent boxes lately, but about six months ago I got about 1 pre 1940 per box... Heck I got an IHC and 1909 wheat in one box. -SWUSC

I also look through them by the box and I average between 8-12 wheats per box. The last couple of boxes have had several 1937 wheats and 2 1918 wheats. Still haven't come across an IHC though...anyway keep looking, they are definitely out there. Good luck!

The best lincoln I've found in recent years was last week. 11 wheats in a box with a 1917S in very fine condition. They still pop up now and then. nlp

I'm going to get one today to see what I can find. Hopefully it's a goodie.

Picked up a box $25.00 in Canada this weekend, found some nice Canadian cents, but, also these :- 1910 Lincoln in VF condition, 1939 Lincoln VG, and a Steelie 1943 about VF.

It is not bad luck, just reality. Why would you expect to be able to find 60-70 year old coins with a design different from the current one in change? The average rate of finding wheaties in circulation in less than 0.5%(1 in 200 or greater) and those tend to be 1950s and maybe from the late 40s but anything before that is almost nonexistent in circulation just like it should be due to attrition.
