Hi everyone,

New to the board - recently got back into roll searching for halves and stumbled upon this forum. I read a thread about spending 'rare' coins/currency and realized that I'm not the only one looking for Eisenhower dollars in bulk quantities. After calling virtually the entire supply line (bank, armored carrier, Fed, Treasury, even the Mint) to no avail, one local bank (People's) referred me to US coins Inc. in Houston. A generic name like that (a la Jay Parrino's The Mint) made me wary of their claims, however.

I called them and they said I could buy Ikes in any basic bulk quantity ($250, 500, 1000, etc) with no service fee. I would pay shipping of approx. $20-30. The agent on the phone also said they sell bulk silver bags (at spot) which was bizarre considering the bank said this was a supplier, not a 'coin company'.

Before I send a check for a grand to a mystery company halfway across the country, I wanted to check with you guys to see if this sounds legit, or if I should steer clear of this company/offer.

Thanks,
Merc

I didn't know they had coins I usually ordered stamps from them.

3 out of 5 times have I got my order so I'm not sure if you would want to get something that valuable from them.

I don't know anything about that company, nor did I know there was a demand for clad Ikes. I live near a major auction house and went last month and they had a series of Ike rolls that didn't sell, all started at $20 a roll plus 10% hammer fee, so $22 a roll. Here's the list of rolls all described as BU :1972D, 1974, 1974D (3), 1976 Type 2, 1976D type 1, 1976D Type 2 (2), 1978.

Maybe I'll start paying attention and do some research before next auction.

US coins inc has a bricks and mortar building just off Interstate 10. I have driven past it a few times but never ventured in They do have representation at some of the shows I have been to but again never bought from them. They just never seem to have what I am looking for.

I saw a couple auctions on ebay last week, where 25 coins were selling for $50. plus. Ad s/h it was close to $60.

A couple months back there was an interest in IKE's on CC. Maybe there still is.

My bank will order them in $100 lots. I called the local Brinks and was told they have many bags that have been sitting for years. He said if it was up to him, they would ship all back to the Federal Branch. I did get a 100 a while back, but haven't gotten any more recently.

Sure would like to get a bag direct!

Been in US coins several times, matter of fact was in there today for the first time in months. They have downsized considerably since the last time I visited. Never bought much of anything other than used albums from stuff they have bought. Did buy a fewy Silver Eagles at a good price. Seems to me they are a bit pricey, maybe due to the high-dollar location and area; I do have to say that the people there are very courteouse and helpful, give them an A+ on that. I suppose a regular customer could do well but I am not that regular. When in Houston to buy coins I prefer a shop off Loop 610 South across from Meyerland shopping center, can't remember the street name, business name is Royal Coins, I find them very nice folk to deal with and not real pricey on stuff. I give them an A++ and they get most of my money.

I went there about 3 times, bought something each time, but they made me feel like they were doing me a favor to allow me to buy from them; asked a simple question and got a smart-a-- answer after which the person turned to wait on someone else even though I was attempting to make a purchase. Have run into many others with a similar experience. I like doing business with folks who value my business, however small it may be.

Sorry about your experience. I guess I have been lucky. I often leave empty handed. simply because they has such a small stock of the things I am interested in. The guy behind the counter has always been polite and courteous he even calls out one of the others if I have asked a question he is unable to answer. I don't doubt you have had a bad experience, I have heard the same thing from several other people I have talked to at shows. But to date my experiences have been nothing but enjoyable. Royal coins is also a friendly experience. I get calls from them all the time to come "look" at something interesting. Never any pressure to buy.

You folks are getting off the track. He wants to know if it is safe to order bulk Ikes at face from US coins Inc. So you guys that have been there give him an answer. Do you think he can trust them to ship him the dollars? BasicBob, you've been there, what do you think?

I would trust them, they seem very reputable, have been there a long time and always the same people behind the counter, I don't think they would do you wrong.
