Looking for wisdom on the quarter. Was it damaged post mint? How can you tell?

you can tell because with a hammer it's easy to create a similar looking quarter

I can tell it is PMD because there is no way
that could happen when the coin was struck.

Knowing how coins are minted really helps a person understand what can and cannot come out of the mint. I suggest looking at videos online concerning how coins are made. The time spent watching the videos will lesson the time you spend hoping you have found something that is a real error and being disappointed over and over (which happens to a lot of people).
