I was searching some rolls of nickels and I found this new one which I thought looked odd. Then when I flipped it over there was more distortion. I am wondering if this is a mint error? Some kind of strike through grease potentially? Let me know if this isn't the case but I thought it had cool toning to it.

Thanks,
Tyler

Looks like it is all PMD.Not a mint error.

Damage to a coin is never a mint error. It is post strike damage when it happens.

Interesting post-strike damage. Toning looks interesting too--wonder what the lighting was like when the coin was photographed.

Hey ijn,

Both pictures on this post the lighting is coming from above where Jefferson's head is. The first image is directly over the coin and second is more oblique to see the reflection.
