I've been having a lot of trouble finding circulated penny boxes in the last couple of months, and have been subsisting on customer rolls to feed my penny addiction. I think starting late last year, all the bank branches that I frequent in my area have been saying that they don't have circulated boxes or don't give out boxes at all. The one location where I have been able to get boxes, ended up being uncirculated boxes. Is this a special time of the year or something, when the US Mint mints a ton of new pennies to fill up the empty bank coffers? I've tried 4 US Bank branches and 2 Wells Fargo branches so far. Has anyone else had more luck at other banks? Perhaps a smaller local bank? Or maybe a credit union? Any insight would be appreciated.
Cheers!

Yea, I've gotten "circulated" rolls before that had 90% or 95% uncirculated and 5%-10% circulated. But I guess I can't complain, because I found a 1935 King George V penny from one of those. That was really lucky, though.

I didn't have a problem this past December. In 2020 and 2021 no deal due to shortage. December gave me a 1995 P DDO. No complaints here. I'm in Maine.

Can't answer the box question because I'm not an industrial-grade box searcher. However, I get piles and piles of individual rolls at several bank branches across three major banks without issue--about 50/50 split between customer wrapped and commercially wrapped. I take what I can get with a smile.

Hit two US Bank branches in my area today. One location didn't have any customer rolls; the other location had $0.50. What gives? Is everybody hoarding pennies? Bah!
Sorry, had to vent a bit.

Another thing to remember is banks are businesses not public services. It costs them money to get boxes of change delivered. Some just get tired of spending money to supply roll hunters.

@bobby131313 We have a personal and business account at our local bank branch, so they haven't tired of us yet! But the trouble is that the boxes they get from the mint or Loomis or wherever have been mostly uncirculated since late last year. They don't have any problems giving us boxes, though.
Cheers!

When I got back into roll hunting a few months ago, I go to the head teller and ask for a box of pennies and they immediately cried coin shortage. I went back a few times and they were not budging and I had to explain to them how it works. I get a box and go through them and keep a handful but I bring the rest back to the bank. I'm not burying them or hoarding them they are coming right back. Minus a few. So they finally let me get a box of nickels and 200 worth of halfs but they said dollars are not going to happen ever. Since then they have been letting me have pennies and nickels whenever I want. This last time on Wednesday they were low on pennies and only gave me 10 rolls but said a shipment is due Monday. You have to take them by the hand and tell em there's no shortage at all because 99% is coming right back to em. They probably just don't want to go through the process of what it takes to release the coins
