Went to the bank to today to get some nickels and all they had was $90. In half's customer wrapped. So I took them. My first time searching halves. In one rolI I found 2,64 1,65 3,67 1,68 all in the same roll. Is that beginners luck? My question is what is worth saving. Found a lot of 74,71,72.

Sounds like a collector dump to me. Save the ones that have silver in them. John1  |

98Dodger: Since you're new to the CCF...just in case you don't know...a silver coin will clink...it's very distinctive, especially on half dollar coins and quarters too. You can always look at the rim of the coin. If it's Clad you will see what appears to be a darker line with a lighter line. You can always search the web for years of each type of half dollar that are silver.
Please don't take my comments incorrectly. I'm just not sure how "new" you are to all of this. Happy hunting!

40% silver ones will still show a darker layer. 1964 is 90% silver,65-66-67-68-69-70 will be 40% silver. John1 |

With roll hunting half dollars you should generally get as many as you can afford, or as many as the bank has, that is what I do. And then dump them at some other bank elsewhere(don't use the same company if your bank is a chain).  |

Congratulations and yes...this will not be the typical amount of silver you find! As to dumping at a different bank, you might be able to do what I did when I was roll hunting. I went into the bank, asked to see the head teller, told her I was trying to see if I could fill an album, showed it to her and asked if I could return the rolls after going through them. She said it would be no problem. I got to know the tellers, brought a basket of chocolates every so often, brought them album to show my progress, and they seemed to enjoy helping me. Great times! BTW...and I hope not to get you too addicted...you can look for varieties and have a blast also. A 1974-D doubled die is a good doubled die and if you go at this seriously, you may find one! Here is a compiled list from many sources of what to look for if you want it:  It needs one revision to it though. I do not believe the 1972-D No FG is a legitimate die error. the FG was polished off. I have yet to see one where the surrounding area where the initials are is not worn from polishing. Another couple of varieties you can keep a lookout for are a repunched mint mark on the 1964 D half's (I found one roll hunting, they are out there!) and I believe there were a couple of double die varieties as well on the 1964s. One last one if I am correct is a no designer's initials variety as well.

Wow,such a good luck. I am also a beginner, had searched half dollars for less than a month, normally the bank only had less than $100 Half's and they normally were customer wrapped(someone searched it before). So far I went through about $500 in total, no luck for any silver yet
