I have a 194? Wheat penny that is missing the last number of the date. Is this a common thing, or do I have something here. Of course I think it's a 1943!! LOL

I found a couple like that because I have a hoard of wheat pennies here and noticed that some of them that say 194 are missing the last digit. I think people are trying to make them think that they were 43. Just my opinion it looks like somebody filed off the last digit a long time ago a long time ago.

Would be cool to see full, large and sharp images of the coin's obverse and reverse--helps establish context.

Imagine walking up to someone at a coin show with your coin. You ask them to look at it--look at the date. Ninety-eight percent of the time, the very first thing the person will do is look at both sides of the coin--then the feature in question.

I've got a couple a 1946's that seem to be greasers...
Looking at them straight on you can't see the 6...but tilted just right the 6 is there. Give it a try and let us know if that works?

I had what you said on.my post and I deleted it. I thought that somebody might think I was nuts by saying do that and turning it around every which way raising the scope of I'm looking at a different images. I've had to do that and discovered exactly what you were talking about besides what I said about filing off. I've seen what some people must have done in the past that caused the patina to come over the coin and I guess it was their intention who knows where they felt they could get away with something back then again who knows.

@ijn1947. I would gladly do that, but I can't get my scope to take pics only videos? and they are too large to share. It's a Tomlov? I posted a help request in the equipment forum, but no responses. Any ideas? I'm somewhat new to all of this, but I have a pretty large collection that I'm just starting to go through. Any pointers are appreciated. Thanks!

Can you take a photo with the coin on an angle? Sometimes it's easier to see things on the surface.
