I found this penny today right before leaving my job. I wish it was in better condition but still. I was able to test my new portable microscope on it. What is everyone's opinion I am still new to collecting. Did I do good finding this coin?

Looks like Machine Doubling (MD) and a mis-aligned die (MAD).

Agree with the frog--machine doubling and obverse misaligned die.

@sof, normally we tell folks that the mis-alignment needs to be so extreme as to cause the top of the letters to start falling off the edge before there is numismatic value. You could save this one until a better example comes around as the cost of ownership is low.

Spence yeah and it's not in best shape. I figured it's not a good one for sale but I wouldn't try to sell even if it was worth money. I get too attached when I do find a special coin of any kind. But yeah definitely going in my collection. Funny thing was I didn't even notice the front being off until I got home I was stuck on the back and seeing if I could find anything else.

Soflo1985,

I agree with a minor MAD and I see no doubled die,it is MD. Also, please no photos of your scopes screen.

Well Machine Doubling is on a normal/doubled die coin. This is caused by the machine. So these are not collectables. They are a striking issue. A doubled die is a die issue. (thus they are die varieties) Striking issues like the movement of the machine post strike are altered coins. No premium for these.
