This is a type 2 nickel 1913-1938 Can't tell if it has a mint mark
You should buy a Red Book, Guide to US coins

@ale, you could try nic-a-date or vinegar to potentially bring back the date, but otherwise I don't think you can narrow down the date range.

This one is so slick I don't think anything will bring the date back. Looks like there may be a mintmark on the reverse, between the rim and FIVE CENTS.
