I have an 8 Reales early 1600s coin I would like confirmation of ID. I think it's a Bolivian 8 Reales, Philip III 1617-1618 KM#10, but obverse has some small differences (top right of coat has a different number of vertical lines)
Maybe Potosi, PH II, Assayer 'B', 3rd period, 1581-1586 ... opinion only, could be wrong ... nice cob ... the difference concerning the lines could be from an uneven strike, common for this type of coin production ... looks genuinely struck, not cast from a mold ... suggest contacting Dan Sedwick (google for his website) & inquire about a certification ... most available 8 reales from early PH III era are from the Atocha shipwreck, therefore, corroded / saltwater-damaged, thus, if yours is 1616-1618, it is more desirable to the average collector (shipwreck collecting is another field, altogether...) ... ...Nice cob! ...
