Oh Oh that smell. Can't you smell that smell?

I bought a new safe today. Got it home. Opened it up to start installing it, and it smells.

It's not a revolting scent, more irritating that anything.
Kind of an oily smell.

My questions,

Has this happened to anyone else?

Could it be the TEN large desiccant packs inside?

Could it be the carpeting inside?

Most of all, could it hurt my coins?

Thanks.

Mine kinda stunk a bit when I first got it. Think how long these things sit closed up from the time it was built to the time it was bought.

I let mine air out a bit with the windows open and after a day it was fine. If that doesn't work then just febreze it

Mine is old as the hills and smells musty like them too! Throw some Dri-Z-air type stuff in there with some baking soda maybe?

Nothing to worry about...Do let it sit open for a few days to "off gas" plus you can add in a couple of the pine tree car scents.
Peace

I was hoping it was "what's that smell", and not "gimme three steps" that you were going to quote.

You must have the deluxe model! My Sentry is just a plastic bottom.

I love freebird.

Anyways, I guess its like a new car or a new pair of shoes. They have that specific 'new' smell to them.
Rest in Peace

Wish I had a good enough collection to merit a safe.
