got these from an online local estate auction, do to their condition I was bidding on them as bullion, paid $11.37 each, here is a pic from the auction Sooo thought I would try and clean off the brown/black off the Kennedy`s, used acetone and soap and water and most of it came off, don`t know if it was from a fire or what. the obverse got the worst of it, but some show some luster, the reverses got a little and a few have full luster. all the reeded edges are black. did not see much wear and estimate them as a high AU or low MS. the franklins are well circulated with poor bell lines, I have a lot better. anyway bash me for cleaning, but at that price in could not hurt *** Edited by Staff to Add Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

Not bad for stackers. And the washing certainly didn't hurt.

Well, the soap wasn't a great idea, it will leave a film on these silver coins. I would give them another long acetone bath (over night) to make sure that the soap is gone. You are using pure acetone from a hardware store and not fingernail polish remover type of acetone I would hope.

Otherwise a pretty nice haul - and you may be right about them suffering from smoke inhalation..

Pure acetone will not damage coins and will evaporate completely. Nail polish remover is mostly acetone, but with various other chemicals that may remain behind and could possibly damage your coins.

The cleaning didn't hurt these coins. Sounds like you knew what you were doing and didn't damage them.
They melt at $8.76/ea tonight. $11.37/ea is a fair price in today's crazy silver premium market.

Cleaning bullion/stackers won't hurt a thing. It only matters when you clean a collectable coin. John1

But it never hurts to get into a good habit when handling any coins.

Nice haul! Bullion or not, I agree with Dearborn, they deserve another acetone soak and then a rinse with acetone. Once you rinse with acetone, just let them air dry.
