1994 P Quarter That Weighs 5.2 Grams And Has A 23.1 Diameter

I have a 1994 p quarter that weighs 5.2 grams and measures slightly over 23.1 millimeters. This had me thinking quarter struck on a heavy nickel planchet. Well from what I've researched there are inconsistencies with that. The edges are completely smooth but it has a copper tone color between the clad layers and I conducted a field test with my metal detector. On mine, a nickel shows 5 cents and a quarter 25 or 50 cents as is expected. This coin however showed in the quarter range thus throwing out the nickel planchet theory, correct? It's thickness is slightly thicker than a quarter and slightly thinner than a nickel. IDK! Can anyone shed some light on this for me please? Report this Post to the Staff
