Hi, my first post here in the forum. My question is, has anyone else seen an error on the new quarter that gives it a grainy appearance? And if so what kind of error is it?

Reverse is normal. It's only on the front of the coin

If you zoom in you can see a strange squiggly line pattern all over.. not sure what that would be but I do see it.

@mizz, first welcome to CCF. Second, is your first picture taken with this quarter already inside the 2x2? I ask because when you are asking about subtle surface details, the plastic window can distort our view. With that said, mostly when we see coins with some surface texture, it is due to chemical or environmental exposure. One remote possibility is that this coin has a so-called "orange peel" texture, but I don't know if that shows up on modern clad coins.

Thank you so much Spence for the meaningful reply. No the first image the coin was not in a case when I took the image. I cleaned the prints off and put it in a 2x2 later. Now I totally get what you are saying about what could cause such damage, but we are talking about a coin that is less than a few months old. How much time did it really have for that to happen? What are the odds? Other wise I would totally agree with some sort of PMD. These lines though are a straight, and in the same direction. All seems done at once. Not as if it ran through something a bunch and ended this way. Almost mechanical. Have you seen any machine damage like this? Ok so after looking it up, I'm going to have to say, yes orange peel texture is exactly what I would say this is most like. I don't know if this happens with modern coins, but thank that does seem to be the answer I was looking for. Thank you!

Thank you Errers,
Now that is a an error I had not seen before and now I know about. Makes perfect sense that is what I am seeing.
I appreciate you jumping in with your experience.
