Looks suspect to me, but I'm def not the expert. Will be curious to hear what others have to say.

No clue, but can't imagine someone ATing one side of the coin while leaving the other side clean.

Most likely the coin was in a role and stored in a sock drawer. Only the obverse was exposed to the sulfur from feet and hence that got toned.

Yes, naturally toned and fairly priced with a small color premium IMO. Not for everyone as collector tastes differ.

It looks naturally toned to me.

However it came to be, that toning is distracting to my eye.

Probably stored in one of those old single-sided coin folders. Reverse protected but the obverse exposed to the environment.

The character of the toning depends on the environment. In this case it could? very well be natural toning.
Actually, I always prefer blast white, because toning, irrespective character or extent, no matter how you regard it, is still a form of surface corrosion.
Some toning adds to eye appeal, but attractive toning can be unstable, if not preserved in it's current state.
That I may like this coin or not, is irrelevant to the eye of another beholder.

The toning appears to be natural. If the coin is not in a TPG holder, would not pay a premium for the toning.

If anyone is still curious this coin has been graded PCGS 63.

Natural end roll or album toning. Unlike their vibrant rainbow Morgan predecessors, Peace dollars often toned brown or black.
