I got this 1944 penny as change from a restaurant in a casino in Washington state a couple weeks ago. It weighs 2.7 grams and is magnetic. There are some issues with the date and the word liberty and trust. L in liberty in border and the b looks weird. Second t in trust does not look right. Second 4 looks off. I have included pics of the coin. Wanting opinions if I should pursue furthur with authentication. Also liberty looks like it is on a angle.

Sure would be cool if it were an actual '44 steel.... can you enlarge the pics a bit? My eyes cannot see enough detail to determine if its a knockoff.

To CCF! It looks like a fake. The details are wrong.

My vote is there is a practical joker out there who set a few into circulation.

Counterfeit copies are easy to get. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251...9726247.html

Looks like the same neckless floating head Abe.

Chances are really really good for this being a fake. It's so common and yours has the signs of being that.

details are 'mushy', the rim on the reverse does not look right - Rim Fin at polar opposites (K2 and K8) - something I have never seen before. Liberty looks all wrong and very mushy. missing details on Lincoln's coat under bow tie and again at the hairline and eye.

I'll call this one a reproduction coin (fake).

Date logo shows uneven spacing and the second 4 is smaller than the first.
