Here is another recently graded shilling - NGC PF66

Any thought on a value? And mintage?

I have a 2004 Renniks reference that lists proofs and patterns together at $15000 Australian Dollars for the 1934 shilling - the Krause World Coins from 2019 has a mintage of 100 and a Proof 63 value of $11000 US

I don't see any sales on ebay and can't figure out how to research the auction houses - but will try again!

Thanks in advance!

I would search Heritage auctions. You might have to sign up to see sold prices, but I don't think that there is a charge.

You can search the Nobles auction archive.
I've just done so and there are six there with the realized prices.

OK - thanks to both of you for the suggestions
I found two 1934 proof sets at Heritage - one has the same re-punched 4 on the 6 pence as in my other post
At the Nobel site (great!) I found a few but am confused by the terminology - proof like - specimen like - FDC
Having collected Canadian I know the significance of the terms but also know they are sometimes used differently than in the US (where I am)
I will look around some more on both sites!

Stunning coin!

Regarding value, it is virtually impossible to be precise as these coins are rarely sold and market conditions for Australian rarities (such as pre-decimal proofs) have changed radically in the last decade.

Two major Australian numismatic firms (John Pettit Rare Banknotes and Rare Coin Co.) went into liquidation between 2012 and 2013. Both companies had rather unique business models where they offered a buy-back guarantee of sorts on the coins and banknotes they sold. These guarantees helped attract quite a large client base of not only collectors, but also investors. For various reasons - legal battles, global financial crisis, superannuation fund changes, insufficient record keeping - these firms eventually found themselves unable to honour the guarantees. In the case of Rare Coin Co., there are articles citing the company's guarantee commitments amounted to some A$250 million in client-owned stock at the time of liquidation.

With the liquidation of both firms, and the loss of their clients, there was retraction in the value of many Australian rarities. Take for instance the 1934 proof set sold by Heritage in 2010 for $276,000 compared to the set sold in 2015 for $105,750! As such, I would only consider auction results of the last few years to provide any real indication of present value.

On my 22 inch computer monitor, the whole coin images display at 10 inches in diameter.

IMO, I do not see this coin as PF 66.
There is no sharpness of detail in the kangaroo's head
The is no sharpness of detail on the high points of the emu's back feathers.

That is despite the fact that there is no wear anywhere to be seen, either as slight rubbing in the fields, that would indicate disturbance of the luster under the patina, or on the high points of the design, both sides.

The marks that would be perceived as being on the coin's surface may very well be dust particles on the outside surface of the slab, but impossible to say so for sure with these pictures.

Less than 100 1934 proof shillings are known
Google images show an example with very even attractive satin luster covering the whole coin.

I will leave it to others to comment on the Google Images example. or the coin that is the subject of this thread,

I am hoping it is just my bad photography that is keeping you from seeing the needed detail. In hand it is much nicer and a bit sharper!
I see one that sold in a Heritage auction that looks the same - however I am no expert. Thanks for the comment.
