Hello,
I want to buy a gold numismatic coin from Canada to USA with value over 20k and the seller is going to ship with UPS.

I am not sure how to import the item. Anyone has experience?
I heard UPS can help to import it but they charge much higher fee.
How can I declare it in US if the item is shipped through UPS?
Do I need to fill out Fincen 105 form? Any duty?
I tried to call UPS but they do not have definitive answer about importing fee.

Thanks

Don't get ahead of yourself: why not just find out what arrangements the seller is planning? In most cases, you as the buyer have no role in any of this anyway. There's no import duty on coins, and while some sellers are sticklers for forms and declarations, others are not. FedEx has a "Merchandise Processing Fee" and a "Disbursement fee" which total around $40 I think; UPS is likely similar.

I've never lifted a finger in handling any overseas purchase from anywhere. Sometimes a seller bills me a few dollars extra for something shipping-related, sometimes not. Either way, the purchases arrive at my door with varying colors of packaging slips and labels on the outside, that's it. All handled by them, not me.

Welcome aboard, CC _ coin!

Several times a year I receive FedEx shipments from various UK auction houses with no involvement on my part whatsoever. About two or three weeks after each shipment a bill arrives from "FedEx Trade Networks Transport & Brokerage, Inc." for the two fees noted above by classic_coin, which I pay online using a credit card. (There's one on my desk now for a total of US $44.67.) A FedEx representative explained to me a few years ago that these charges are basically user fees meant to cover their costs incurred in handling all the Homeland Security screening and customs paperwork associated with international commerce.

None of my shippers use UPS or DHL, so I can't compare or comment on them, but I have no complaints about FedEx's handling of my incoming parcels.

Are you going to tell us what your new coin is? That's what we do here all the time!
