My mom passed away last fall. This week I was going through a box of her old jewelry. I found this earing, which is totally sweet. I did not find (yet) the matching piece. I have never seen her wear this before, I assume it was before my time. But the detail to cut this out it amazing to me. I told my wife this is most likely a 1916-D...lol. So that's what I'm calling it. Hopefully I can find the other 1916-D matching one too.

That is a really nice cut-out coin. Are you sure it isn't meant to be worn as a pin? That would lay very nicely as a lapel pin or maybe a tie tack.

Nice ear ring! If you try to get it authenticated though, it may come back with a "details (tooled)" designation.

Depends on what grading company you send it to

Thank you everyone for your condolences.

I hope to find the matching piece next time I stop over to the house. Then when my wife and I hit the coin show floors, she will be all ready to show off the bling.

Now sounds like a very good plan..
If you can't find the other one, Make up a cracked open PCGS slab, create a label that says 1916-D Mercury dime, MS63 on it (use the old style they used in the early days) and put a earring post on is and she can wear it in the other ear.
