Hello, I have seen in some of the threads referring to searching pennies that folks often refer to "boxes of penny rolls". Can you get some standard size box from a bank? If so how many rolls are in it? Of is this just a way of saying a large number of penny rolls.
Thanks,
John Paul

A normal box is $25 worth of cents.

Your bank will either have them in their vault or they can order them for you. 50 rolls per box = $25. If you get a box and it's all 2009's ............

If you are going to start doing this, I would recommend that you dont order too many boxes at once (one or two in a single shot so that you dont make them mad). Also, talk to the head teller and get in good with him or her. Show them that you dont want to inconvenience them by asking the head teller when the best time to pick them up would be, or conversely when is a bad time. Make sure to bring the chocolates every so often too. :)
When you're done searching, do not take the rejects back to the same branch. I actually set up a savings account at a Credit Union for this purpose. They have a self service coin counter, so they only have to help me when the bag gets full.
Good luck! Make sure you let us know if you make any cool finds.

Some banks receive coins back from customers in plastic bags, and send them off to be counted and rolled. For those banks, it doesn't matter if you return them to the same branch. This is how my BOFA branch operates.

Well that and you might not want to overly burden the nice people getting you your coins, or they might get less helpful getting you coins.

I also maintain an account at a different bank for the purpose of dumping my rejects.
#1 You don't upset the people supplying you. #2 you contaminate your source with searched coins.
I have to make a run to the Air Force Base 30 miles away every Friday so that is when I make my dump. I figure that way if someone else does get them to search they probably will not bring them back in my area. I have picked up halves that had already been search that came from a town 50 miles down the road. The bank they came from stamped the wrapper and the had someones initials on them.

Thanks for all the replies. If I get a box I will make sure to call ahead and go with a different branch of my bank than usual. That way I can use the coin counter near my house when I want to turn in the rejects

Nope I am saying it so that you do not tick off the people who are helping you get your boxes. Eventually they may figure out what you're doing and either start charging you for boxes or cut them off. If you don't have a business account with the bank that requires you to get large amounts of change, and dump large amounts of change then that might upset the powers that be there. Why ruin a good thing?

Quote: Why ruin a good thing? They may consider it just as much work to give you boxes as to take in a bag of coins. And if you keep dumping at a different branch, and you may upset those powers that be, and they may start charging you to dump? Regardless, having a good relationship with the folks at your bank is important...I understand your point.

I can get boxes of pennies from my banks at no extra charge. Search for wheats or copper and put the rest back.
