Hi Guys,

Old forum member here...hoped I could get some of your opinions. I have the above listed coin that I'm interested in selling at auction. As such, I wondered if I could get some of your opinions first before moving forward.

Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,

eel

@eel, normally we require pictures of coins, but I dug through the pages from the earlier (2008) thread to find these taken by the forum mom:

http://goccf.com/t/29102&whichpage=9#231757

Added: looks like the consensus back then was that a 1964 quarter was fed into the feeder hopper at the mint and re-struck in 1972.

Also, for the doubters out there, here is a link to Mike Diamond's response:

http://goccf.com/t/29102&whichpage=11#232066

He also said:

Quote:
This error is by no means unprecedented. For example, there is a 1966 dime struck over a 1962 dime. The government has never gone after these types of double denomination errors. I would think this coin would be worth around $25,000.

And finally, here it is in the slab:

Thanks to Keith & Spence for helping to catch up on the history of this coin, pretty cool.

@eel, If it were my coin & wanted to auction it, I'd want to get it appraised & then do the same thing the owners of the 1975 No S Proof Dime did recently & go w/ Greatcollections.

I contacted Jim Halperin at Heritage yesterday. I sent him the link from this forum so that he could get a better understanding of the coin, and possibly give me some idea of value.

Thank you all so much for your help and continued support!
