I was looking at this raw coin. Appears to be solid XF45. Thoughts?

It's an attractive piece that looks XF. I'd be a bit concerned about the fields on the reverse though. The outline around the eagle vs. the dark fields is a bit unusual in appearance.

I agree with BH, the hallowing looks a bit unnatural, but also not uncommon. May simply be residual luster in the protected areas. Looking at PCGS1829 XF40/45 graded coins, there are a number that look very much like this one. This one looks XF45 to me.

Coin arrived today. Pictures look a bit blue for some reason - coin in hand doesn't show that color.

i think its the lighting causes that blue tint. solid XF40 for me. the sharpness of the details on both sides could push it to over the line to a 45. always have to remember these are notoriously bad for strike issues
