Simply cannot determine given the single image posted. It's customary to post full, large and sharp pics of the coin--obverse and reverse. Then, post a pic or two of the issue in question. The full photos provide needed context to better understand what may be happening. Thanks.

First - to CCF.

Second Posting of screen shots are not allowed and should not be posted. The pixilation that occurs makes determining fine details impossible.

Third - with only one close up that is mostly unreadable - I'll go and say it appears to be normal.

The first view was from a microscope. Here is a full view. My father left a book of nickels and made a note that it was a D/S. I was not sure if he was correct. Any thoughts?

Try soaking in acetone and perhaps a gentle poking with a toothpick inside and around the D. It may reveal something.
