Stained?
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I like it! Answering my question with a question. Lol
Probably won't help but it has a different look and feel to it.
I try to only keep my posts to things I don't know. Point is, if I thought it were just a stain I would have moved on.
Sorry Probably nothing

The only thing I can think of is a stain of some sort.
Whatever it is, it didn't look like that when it left the mint.

The round spots of discoloration around LIBERTY adds credence to this being stained from a liquid. @girl, can you tell us more how this has a different feel to it?

Your coin looks fairly new, maybe you are feeling the "not worn" effect that older coins have? I am guessing yes, what do you feel on your coin?

Depending on the nature of the stain, the stained portion can have a subtle difference in texture from unstained portions of the coin.

It's stained. Probably had liquid spilling in a cup holder.
