What do I have here. The reading is strong but the plating does not curve around like normal, the edges stick out past the reeds. I have never seen this.

Spent time in an acidic environment. Note the copper core has eroded.

yep, acid will do that - you see the copper core is a softer metal than the cupro/nickel cladding and dissolves faster.
