The rim has been filed or sanded down so it could used in place of a dime in a vending machine.

It looks to have been cut down to the size of a dime for use in an old vending machine. These were used in the 60's as dimes to get a 'discount' on the price of a Coca-Cola. Coop always referred to these as 'Soda Pop Money.' If you do a search for Soda Pop Money you can find other examples of these cut down cent coins.

All you have to do is find a few 10¢ sockets for sale at your local flea market or garage sale.

The old soda machines had glass bottles which were facing toward you and had metal caps. You could just use bottle opener, pop the cap off and drink away, just bring your own cup.

Hey, saving 9 cents in the 60s when I was a kid was a lot of money, don't judge me.
