Hello, all. I live in Michigan, a very friendly border state. As such, we frequently get Canadian coinage in our change.

That said, I have been searching a lot of Lincoln cents, and quite often there are Canadian cents mixed in, so many in fact that I now have a small collection of them. I am considering trying to "build" a more extensive one in the future, and possibly housing them in some kind of folder, book or album, etc.

Any advice? For the most part, from what I understand, there seems to be usually only one cent most years, unlike the US which has multiple minted ones?

Also, here's a few pics of what I've found so far.

This is my favorite find so far.

Your 1943 cent has been floating around in circulation for 80+ years, good find.

Fair warning. Cents were cut in 2012. We don't see them in circulation anymore, so just so you know, they will be harder and harder to find. Good luck.

Excluding a few varieties, most of the cents from 1937 to 2012 can be obtained for very little. You could probably buy a nearly complete set from a dealer for 5 cents a piece, if you settle for average circulated condition. Certainly my LCS will sell them for that little as they are always getting collections.

A few years ago one of our members in the US assembled a complete collection with the help of some Canadian members. You have enough posts so consider posting in the buy or trade section of the forum.

Ah, yes, Canada... that country to the south of you.

Kind of depends on where you are at in the state. I'm basically 20-25 minutes from the Windsor border, so for me, it's really more on the east of me depending on your view. Lol.

Thanks! I'll definitely keep this in mind.

I am aware of this. But despite this, I still see them pretty regularly in the Lincoln Cent rolls, which is why I have quite a bit of them. If I was in a non border state, I would probably rarely find any.

Oh yeah! Thanks! I used to have a 1939 Canadian cent but misplaced it years ago.

Yes, an old joke. My grandfather grew up in Detroit; he used to joke about going "south of the border" with people who would assume he meant Mexico.

I was just saying Canadian consumers shopping in the states won't be pulling out cents to pay a bill. So what's floating around is getting less.

I get it. But, still.... This was what I found today while searching through American Lincoln cents. This isn't a small amount.

I am weighing the options of how I should organize them into a folder, what to collect exactly, and what my options are. I know if you buy some of the cheap Whitman folders, they include different varieties. I don't know if this is a route I want to go or not, since I don't really know much about them and also feel it might be harder trying to get my hands on them. I may organize them simply by 2x2's, but I'm not sure yet. I considered purchasing a Dansco blank cents album for them. Time will tell.

I feel like I honestly found more Canadian finds than I found worthwhile Lincoln cents!

Four more King George cents!

56 and 58 Canadian cents

Also found these beauties, particularly the 1962!

This was pretty stunning

I use a Kaskade album from Lighthouse. https://www.lighthousecanada.ca/can...-1-cent.html
It has clear pages so you can see both sides, does not have holes for set years/varieties and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. It has harder plastic inserts so the cents won't develop PVC damage like the cheap blue albums.

Now stop it. You're making us all jealous up here. As before, good luck. You're in the sweet spot.

Thanks! Also... You said they don't circulate there anymore? If I may ask, why is that? I mean, the difference between not minting a particular coin and not circulating anymore I would think would be two almost entirely different things.

I kind of figured that they would still be out in circulation and used, just not produced anymore.

Cents are not used at all here in Canada since 2012. Purchases are rounded up or down to the nearest 5 cents, if paying in cash. If you purchase something with a credit card, it's not rounded up or down and it's the exact price to the cent. Most merchants won't take them. Lots of piggy banks up here with money that can't be spent.
