2010-Cent-Reverse-Design-Is...

What happened to the one with the eagle? LP 17?

And here's the article. Guess the board did figure out the feather design was too much like that of the reichspfennig.

What is the significance to the 34 stars? Was that the number of states in the union in 1865?

34 stars? Is it commemorating Kansas' statehood or something?

Slightly unimaginative, isn't it?

Okay I looked it up. There were 34 states in the Union in 1861 so that is the number of states Lincoln "preserved". Make sense? Me neither.

But to show that Lincoln kept the Union together, shouldn't there be 36? As in at the end of the civil war the reunited Union had 36 stars?

It really has nothing to do with Lincoln. Every time a state was added a new flag was designed. The one depicted was designed after Kansas was added to the union from July 04, 1861-July 3, 1863 until WA was added

So should we have rotating design of 34, 35 and 36 stars?

That makes the Lincoln Memorial cent reverse look quite 'artistic' by comparison...

I agree with WpgLwr. I think some of the other designs were better.
