1891 CC Morgan Seems To Have Been Graded Low

It was graded as a MS-61 from PCGS. It is a "spitting eagle" variety. . I have was always told to purchase the coin , not the label. In this case, I believe it could have gotten a higher grade. Liberty's face shows very little contact marks. What do you think? 'nt Report this Post to the Staff

It looks like it could pass in a 64 holder, so I am left to wonder if the coin's strong eye appeal saved it from getting a details grade. adam126402 Pillar of the Community United States 887 Posts	Posted 06/20/2026 11:32 pm I see a lot of marks in the obverse fields and in the 3rd photo reveals many more hits on the jaw and cheek. They all look minor, but a lot of them. I don't see this beyond 62. Report this Post to the Staff
panzaldi Bedrock of the Community United States 18684 Posts	Posted 06/21/2026 10:40 am the full coin photos have too much glare from overhead light. the remaining photos seem to show what the coin actually looks like in hand. i'd like to see a full straight on shot, no overhead light to see the surfaces. i'd say PCGS messed up again. imo w/o better full shot photos, i'd call her MS62 Report this Post to the Staff

panzaldi Bedrock of the Community United States 18684 Posts	Posted Today 6H 17M ago taking another look at the later photos I agree with IGE that those photos are showing a lack of luster. there is also a palm or finger print on the obv at K9 which doesn't really affect grade but it does for value.
