About 95% sure this is one! Shame about the green spotting; need some of BadThad's stuff. Everybody agree this is one?

I had posted a coin like that one and everyone said it was not a small date? The seven was even with the 0. So what is the difference between that one and the one I posted. I must be missing something?

I'm almost sure this is, as I am yours.

Bruce

EDIT: oops, that was nlp not you lol - I didn't see yours yet sorry zakota

EDIT #2: Nope Zakota, this is a small date you can tell by the "9". Look how the loop on yours points downwards; here it points at the "7".

I am no expert but I think the 9 looks really good. How is the "LIBERTY",weak? I can never tell if the numbers line up or not so I won't comment on that one.

ill put it to you this way, you would find one in a proof or mint set before you found one in circulation.

Strangely enough, it was a fed wrapped roll, and it actually had TWO other 1970s's in it! Both Large Dates, though.

ah... so from what daviscfad said, the small date 70 was only supposed to be for minting proof cents and mint set cents. It's like a mint error, except a very small and one caused by carelessness.

i would not say that they were made only for proof and mint sets but that it would be easier to find one in a proof or mint set. sorry for any confusions. here is a link with some 70 s small date info.

This thread also helps show the scarcity of finding one.

I found one in a 70s date roll I purchased at a local coin show a couple of years ago. Then, about a year ago, I purchased a roll of 70s someone was selling on e-bay for $8 = shipping already in a plastic tube. 4 of the first 6 coins were small dates! I have bought a few other random rolls, in an effort to get lucky, no cigar....
