Hello, I just got a star note from the bank and was hoping folks on this forum could let me know if it is worth more than face value.
The note is a 5$, series 2006. The serial number is IA00000778* I have heard that low serial numbers are more desirable, but I don't know what it is really considered "low". I have no idea how to grade a bill. That said it looks in good condition. Is is crisp, but not as crisp as an uncirculated note. There are no tears, but there is a light crease near the middle of the bill.
Thanks for any insights,
John Paul

Nice find. Its definitely worth more than face value because of the low serial number. I just don't know by how much (I'm more of a coin person, but I do own some paper money) Heres one with a serial number similar to yours, but its a 10 dollar bill. http://cgi.ebay.com/2003-10-Star-No...ER_W0QQitemZ390035927363QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5acff3f143&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

I would keep it. One crease down the middle isn't going to hurt it much, since this is a low serial number AND and star

Can you post a photo?,I would like to see it.A low # in my opinion is when it starts with at least four zeros, yours is a low # and I would keep it. John1

First off, pictures/images would help alot. Please scan the note and link it here so that we can take a look. District and # of nots printed will factor in as well. Since it is a Series 2006 note you may have to hold it a while since it is pretty new to boot! That fold/crease is most important!
5 leading zero's is always attractive. Depending on the crease, fold, edges, corners and other varaibles it may just be a worth a small premium.
So let's see those images.

Hello, Thanks for all the quick replies. Here is my attempt to take pictures. I have never taken pictures of a bill before, so please let me know if I need to take pictures of anything else, or how to take better pictures. Here is the front and back: Looking at the bill, I can see 2 potential problem areas, but I don't know if they are serious. The first is the crease: The crease at the bottom is just to the left of the word "dollars" and ends at the top in the "R" of "Reserve". It does not come out here well, in part because it does not discolor the bill in any way. It is just a fold in the paper. The second place is the upper left corner of the bill when looking at Lincoln: There are a few small folds there. The "worst" are to the left of the "F" and over the "E" in federal at the top edge of the note. So, how bad (or good) is it? Thanks JP
