I just am about to buy an album for SLQ's, and I was wondering how much common date F/VF quarters usually go for. And do you think SLQ's are a good set to tackle? Thanks.

In F/VF the set would be fairly reasonable with a book value of $7-$100 each for many later dates. The kickers are the 1916- $9,000 in F and $12,000 in VF. 1921 $425 F- $625 VF. 1923-S @ $700 in Fine and $1,000 in VF. And expect to pay between $30-$300 for F-VF in early dated issues. A complete set would be quite an accomplishment. If you decide to tackle it keep us updated on the progress!

Wow that's a lot of money! I'm considering selling my almost complete set of wheat cents to help pay for this and some of my other coins. Thanks for the info.

It's a tough set to tackle. I'm working on it and having a hard time getting even low grade G at decent prices. No, I won't go for the 1916. Best of luck!

Hey, I've been seriously considering one of these too. I have a starter set in mind that I may be purchasing. The SLQs are my favorite silver coin types.

For one thing they don't go anywhere. That is why they are called Standing quarters. As to a good set to tackle? That is completely depending on you. For one thing the chances of finding one in change is a little tuff. Those are not only coins you must purchase, but do the design, most don't have dates and many have very poor dates. The ones in F/VF are all rather on the expensive side. And pending on if you purchase them on line, a coin store, coin show, the prices will all be well over the $30 and way, way up from there. Pending on the brand of Album you purchase, there may be slots for some that you will never, ever find unless your rich or find a counterfeit. As a general rule from coin shows, I'd say your average price will be well into the over $50 range for most of them. One of the things I don't like about that series is it's to short and most Albums have so much room it always appears there will be more someday. Still one of the nicest looking US coins.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I should try a G/VG set or VG/Fine set, although I know it'll still be expensive.

I don't know if there is a "short set" of STQ. You can always do a recessed date set from 1925 to 1930 with all mintmarks, that would give you a nice 15 coin set, in F/VF except the 27s,if you splurge on that coin you have it. In my opinion a short set or year set is preferable to a set with a life long hole in it, but that's just me.

Quote: doesn't it kill ya to have that one coin missing from a complete set? Yes, it does. But when I think of all the other coins I can have (like about sixty Capped Bust half dollars) I reconsider and move on. I found the Standing Liberty quarters to be hard (and expensive)set to collect. Not only are there not many of them (relatively low mintages), there are many key dates/mints. And there are a lot of collectors for these, apparently. I found the Walking Liberty Half Dollars to be a lot more in-expensive and more available. (I was surprised.) And I like the bigger sizes of the Halfs versus the Quarters. I found it very satisfying to collect these. A good value for your money and the keys seemed much easier to collect. That being said, here's my current ('cause it's never done!) Standing Liberty quarter collection:

Wow that's a nice set. So you're missing only the 1916? I probably will try to go after the 1916, although it'll probably take me forever to save up. I just won't feel complete with one hole.
